This experience will take you on a journey to the Port Arthur Historic Site located on the Tasman Peninsula to discover what life was like in the 1800’s for a convict. Departing Hobart we travel through the Coal Valley wine region, stopping briefly at the historic village of Richmond to view Australia’s oldest convict built sand stone bridge – the Richmond Bridge.
Enroute to Port Arthur stop and checkout the beautiful views of the coastline from the Pirates Bay lookout, view the Tessellated pavement and Tasman Arch.
On arrival at Port Arthur you will have the opportunity to explore the site, take a cruise on Carnavon Bay passing by the dockyards, the Isle of the Dead and Point Puer, full commentary is provided on the cruise.
Lunch is at the beautiful Stewart’s Bay Lodge a short 5 minute drive from the Port Arthur Historic Site. After lunch we make our way back to Hobart stopping for a chocolate sampling at Federation Chocolate.
The final stop on the tour is at Domaine Simha for a wine tasting. Domaine Simha’s cellar door is situated within the Brooke Street Pier ferry terminal overlooking the beautiful harbour of Hobart. Domaine Simha was founded at the edge of the world by Nav Singh and Louise Radman. An avant-garde approach shapes living wine relying on ancient knowledge and intuition.
Crafted by hand in very small batches, just 2-3 barrels of each Domaine Simha wine are made. At heart lies Tasmania’s pristine natural environment, sparkling air and ancient soil. Hunting out magical vineyards in the upper Derwent, Coal River and Huon Valleys, Domaine Simha partners with expert growers. The dream is to plant our own patch of earth some day Nav Singh mastered the craft of wine in Australia and honed his skills in the prestigious chateaux of Burgundy and Bordeaux.
His Single vineyard wines are shaped au naturel to harness the provenance of epic Tasmanian terroir and season.
Methods embrace harvesting by lunar cycle on fruit and flower days, whole bunch wild fermentation with traditional pigeage, maturation in custom demi-muid oak and clay amphorae, basket pressing, bottling unfined and unfiltered with perfect natural balance. The house of Simha originates from sanskrit for lion. To honour a heroic heritage, Domaine Simha wines take their titles from royalty and legends of the East.
After the completion of the experience you are centrally located to visit the Salamanca Market (Saturday’s), or stroll around the waterfront before enjoying an evening meal at one of the many beautiful restaurants. The Hobart Twilight Market is a great way to spend a Friday night in Hobart, located at Long Beach Lower Sandy Bay and Macquarie Point, Hobart. You can enjoy gourmet food, artisan wine, along with browsing the art, craft and design. Live music from local talent adds to the atmosphere.
